Similarly, the annual number of days of rainfall for each city was divided by 12, to find out the monthly average of days of rainfall.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>WHICH UK CITIES ARE THE WETTEST?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2589 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.showerstoyou.co.uk\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/wettest_cities_uk_0102-01.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"695\" height=\"1136\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.showerstoyou.co.uk\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/wettest_cities_uk_0102-01.png 955w, https:\/\/www.showerstoyou.co.uk\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/wettest_cities_uk_0102-01-183x300.png 183w, https:\/\/www.showerstoyou.co.uk\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/wettest_cities_uk_0102-01-626x1024.png 626w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 695px) 100vw, 695px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upholding Wales&#8217; bad weather reputation and taking the title of the rainiest UK city is <\/span><strong>Cardiff<\/strong>,\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with an average of 96mm of rainfall each month &#8211; the most out of all the cities. People living here can expect an average of 12.4 days of rain each month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following closely behind is the Scottish city of\u00a0<\/span><strong>Glasgow<\/strong>,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0with an average of 94mm of rain falling monthly. If you\u2019re considering a move here, brace yourself as you can expect it to rain for an average of 14.2 days each month &#8211; the most of all UK cities analysed in our study.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In third place is <\/span><strong>Huddersfield<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with 10mm less rainfall each month compared to Glasgow in second (86mm). Our analysis can reveal that r<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">esidents living here can expect it to rain for at least 12.8 days each month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following behind are <strong>Plymouth<\/strong> and <strong>Swansea<\/strong>, in fourth and fifth place respectively. Both cities join the 80mm+ of rainfall range, as both average 84mm of rainfall each month. Similarly, residents in both of these cities can expect 11.8 and 12.3 days of rain each month on average, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A number of cities were found to be in the 70mm+ range, starting with <\/span><strong>Belfast<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(79mm), <\/span><strong>Blackpool<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(74mm) and <\/span><strong>Stockport\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(73mm), in sixth, seventh and eighth spot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cheltenham<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><strong>Liverpool<\/strong>, <strong>Sheffield<\/strong> and <strong>Bournemouth<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">were all found to share an average of 70mm of rainfall each month. However, what differentiates them from each other is the average number of days of rainfall in each city. Cheltenham residents can expect\u00a012.1 days of rainfall\u00a0per month,\u00a0<\/span>Liverpudlians are likely to face\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12 days of rain, <\/span>citizens of the Steel City (Sheffield) are likely to face\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">11 days of rain, and those living by the coast in Bournemouth can forecast rain for 10 days of the month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following behind in 13th is <strong>Aberdeen<\/strong> and <\/span><strong>High Wycombe<\/strong> come<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 14th, with both averaging 68mm of rain each month. However, when it comes to rainy days, Aberdeen beats High Wycombe by one extra day, with Aberdeen averaging 11.6 days each month and High Wycombe 10.9.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also falling into the 60mm+ bracket is <\/span><strong>Bristol<\/strong>, with the city\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">coming in 15<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> place with 67mm of rain falling each month.\u00a0<\/span><strong>Coventry<\/strong> follows behind with\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">66mm of rainfall each month in 16th\u00a0place. Both of these cities can expect almost <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">11 days of rainfall each month on average. In fact, residents of the South Western city of Bristol can expect an average of 10.5 days of rainfall each month on average, and Coventry 10.9 days.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>With\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">66mm of rain each month, <strong>Eastbourne<\/strong> comes in 17th. Following closely behind with 65mm of rainfall is <strong>Exeter<\/strong> and <strong>Southampton<\/strong>. Our research can reveal that Exeter averages around 10.1 days of rain every month, on average, whereas\u00a0Eastbourne\u00a0and Southampton can expect 9.6 days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of the top 20 wettest cities in the UK, the seaside town of<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>Hastings<\/strong> is the &#8220;driest&#8221;. Representing this region from the top 20 are High Wycombe, Eastbourne, Southampton and Hastings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With three cities and in third place is <\/span><strong>North West<\/strong> England, as<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Blackpool, Stockport and Liverpool make the top 20.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Yorkshire and the Humber<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have only two cities in the top 20 &#8211; Huddersfield and Sheffield. Similarly, only two cities represent\u00a0<\/span><strong>Scotland<\/strong> (Glasgow and Aberdeen) and <strong>Wales<\/strong> (Cardiff and Swansea) too.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>West Midlands<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> joins in fifth place with its one representative being Coventry.\u00a0<\/span><strong>Northern Ireland<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also has one city representing them in the top 20 &#8211; their capital city, Belfast.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><b>WHICH MONTH IS THE RAINIEST IN THE UK?<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2598 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.showerstoyou.co.uk\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/wettest_cities_uk_0102-02.png\" alt=\"The wettest months\" width=\"830\" height=\"530\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.showerstoyou.co.uk\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/wettest_cities_uk_0102-02.png 955w, https:\/\/www.showerstoyou.co.uk\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/wettest_cities_uk_0102-02-300x192.png 300w, https:\/\/www.showerstoyou.co.uk\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/wettest_cities_uk_0102-02-768x491.png 768w, https:\/\/www.showerstoyou.co.uk\/latest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/wettest_cities_uk_0102-02-650x416.png 650w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 830px) 100vw, 830px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our research found that some months we are most likely to see rain more often than others. To find out which month in the rainest, we analysed the data to find each city\u2019s heaviest month of rainfall. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking the lead is <\/span><strong>October<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with 12 of the top 20 cities having their heaviest amount of rainfall in this month. This should come as no surprise as Autumn is known to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/weather\/learn-about\/met-office-for-schools\/other-content\/other-resources\/our-seasons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one of the UK\u2019s wettest seasons<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The 12 cities with the heaviest rainfall fall into October are Glasgow, Swansea, Belfast, Blackpool, Stockport, Cheltenham, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Aberdeen, Eastbourne, Exeter and Hastings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>December<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the second most popular month for rainfall when looking at each city\u2019s heaviest month of rainfall. We found that five cities in the top 20 had the highest levels of rainfall in the twelfth month: Cardiff, Huddersfield, Plymouth, Sheffield and Bristol.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We found that <strong>November<\/strong> is<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0the third rainiest month across UK cities with both High Wycombe and Southampton having their heaviest rainfall on average during this month. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, of the wettest cities in the top 20, <\/span><strong>August<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was found to be the least rainy month, as only Coventry can expect to have their heaviest downpour then.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we can see from our findings, unsurprisingly the autumn and winter months are when the most amount of rainfall can be expected when living in the UK.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #003366;\"><strong>METHODOLOGY:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.showerstoyou.co.uk\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ShowersToYou.co.uk<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> used <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.metoffice.gov.uk\/research\/climate\/maps-and-data\/uk-climate-averages\/u103m1du2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">data from the Met Office<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to find the average annual rainfall in mm for each UK city with a population over 100,000.
