Electric Showers vs Power Showers

At Showers to You, it’s our job to make sure you walk away happy with your new shower. And, if you’ve ever purchased an item from us before, you’ll know we take pride in making sure you’re buying a product suitable for your needs. The world of showers is complicated, so we would never expect you to buy a product on face value alone.

One of the most common questions we get asked is the difference between power showers and electric showers. Firstly, all powers showers are electric, but not all electric showers are power showers. Here’s why..

Let’s start with Electric Showers.

As the name would suggest, electric showers use electricity to heat up water. The way in which this is done is actually quite simple. Cold water flows into the bottom of the shower, it’s then goes through a strong heated element to heat the water to a temperature you require. Not to be mistaken for mixer showers, which take the water from either your combi boiler or hot water tank. Generally, electric showers are easy to point out. You will either trigger it with the master on/off switch by pulling a cord in your bathroom our flicking a switch before you enter.

Now we know the basics, what are the advantages?

The advantages far outweigh the drawbacks with electric showers. Maybe this is the reason why approximately 40% of our nation has one. Financially, they are very cost effective. Showers to You stock a wide range at great prices. Prices which may surprise you. Having been around for such a long time, you’ll be pleased to know your plumber will be very clued up on installing them. Electric showers also tend to be eco-friendly. This is because you are only heating the water you use, rather then paying to heat a full tank. And a BIG bonus for many, if another family member is using another house appliance, it won’t make your water go cold and give you a nasty shock.

Now for Power Showers.

We give the name ‘power shower’ to any shower which boosts the water pressure from a tap to make your showering experience more enjoyable. Installing a power shower will help your shower experience if your electric shower is offering you drips, instead of a constant stream of water. Using a pump, power showers force water over the element to heat it resulting in a stronger flow of water from your shower head.

And power shower advantages…

If you have low water pressure at home, power showers are a great solution. Gaining that luxurious feeling, a strong jet of water can make the difference from a standard electric shower. Power showers are a popular choice to many. Showers to You stock a wide range from major brands such as Aqualisa and Triton.

Remember: Most electrical work in the bathroom comes under “Part P” regulations. Unless you are simply changing between an old power shower and a new one of exactly the same specification, you need to get a fully qualified electrician to fit it.
